Latest Updates from Our Project:

So, so close!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Apr 21, 2021 at 07:00:13 AM

Hello backers! Many of you have reached out with questions about how to operate the saber and change LED colors. For the benefit of everyone, below is a quick tutorial to get you started. If you still can't figure it out, there might be a technical glitch that needs some TLC. If that's the case, please send me an email at [email protected], and we'll connect to get your issues sorted out.

We are so close to the end of the campaign! As of today we have 19 sabers left to ship. 12 of those are assembled, with hilts just waiting for a last batch of button PCBs to arrive. (We broke more than we anticipated in production and had to re-order a few to finish of the last few remaining orders.) Those will arrive Thursday, and then we'll be back in the workshop packing umbrellas, printing labels, and dropping off at the post office.

Backers, please check your inboxes for emails from me. Seven of you have not responded at all to multiple attempts to contact you, so I don't know what kind of saber to build or where to send it. If you haven't heard from me yet about shipping address confirmation, you will in the next few weeks. I want you to know that you are the true defenders of the peace! Haha. Your patience has made this a much easier process for me, allowing me to focus on build quality and customer support.

I am so very happy with the way this campaign is wrapping up. 99% of you have been thrilled with the umbrellas, and that makes me quite proud that we were able to keep this campaign alive to deliver your well-deserved rewards. (We won't talk about how late.) Thank you thank you thank you for making this all possible.

If you have any issues with your umbrellas, please reach out.

Spring Forward
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 15, 2021 at 09:04:58 AM

Hello, everyone. It's another cold Monday here in NYC, but it looks like the future outside--bright and sunny! (Technically, that's a bad thing for the umbrella business, but we're not letting that get us down.)

A few of you have requested an update, and I am happy to report that the vast majority of backers, around 75%, have received their umbrellas. We have 36 left to ship, with 15 units ready to go out this week. I think my favorite part of this campaign has been been filling out shipping labels. A) It means I'm finally delivering on my campaign promise to you; but, B) I get to see where you're from. It's so neat to look up your cities, check out the weather that week, and daydream about a Rainsaber swinging around in the rain there.

So far we have been shipping primarily Rainsaber One orders because of the ease of assembly. This week and next we will be shifting attention to Mentor, Knight, Heroine, and Nemesis hilts. I have completed the manufacturing redesign of first three. This has resulted in a few cosmetic tweaks to support a fully modular blade system as well as improve durability. I had to increase the neck diameter to 32 mm and replace the golden key card aesthetic with 2 steel buttons, but the designs themselves still remain very close to your favorites.

About 1/20 backers report a malfunction of one kind or another, but we like those odds. We've replaced saber blades, handles, and even whole umbrellas, with shipping to boot. Let us know if you're soon one those few experiencing issues, and I'll make it right.

Lastly, if I contacted you in November, December, or January with a tracking number, and you have still not received your umbrella, please let me know with an email to [email protected]. USPS was a complete disaster during that period, with some backers reporting shipments arriving over 2 months late. In addition, some tracking numbers never registered in the system despite backers reporting delivery. Arrrgh!! Thus, I am assuming that, if I have not heard from you, you received it.

Thanks again for your support, everyone. The campaign is almost complete!

NYC: Reopening for Business
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Jun 09, 2020 at 08:16:19 AM

Ahoy, backers!

This update is three weeks overdue. Please don't take it personally--so are all my library books.

Joking aside, it's been difficult to stay on top of communication recently. Or anything, really. Taking care of a two-year-old full-time during a pandemic shutdown is way harder than I thought it would be. I. Am. Exhausted.

I haven't made much progress the last few weeks due to the reasons cited above, but that will change soon. Today NYC finally re-opened some non-essential sectors for business. That means I can get to the post office, pick up supplies, and, if I'm feeling risky, maybe even hire a babysitter so I can get some work done.

First order of operations this week will be to drop all the missing t-shirt and keychain rewards in the mail. If you ordered either/both and have not received them yet, please check your email inbox for an email from me. When that's done, I'll be dropping off a batch of umbrellas for shipment, too. Be on the lookout for an email from me about that as well.

That's all I have for tonight, folks. Here's to a productive week ahead!

Ben
